Cross Cultural Awareness Program (CCAP)

Cross Cultural Awareness Program is a program to help foreigners understand the Korean culture and communicate with Korean people. It is a join program by UNESCO and Education Department of Korea. On July 4(Monday), we went to Hauendae Education Office to attend its orientation. There were 9 of us in total - Sin, Gupta and Pooja from North India; Wei Shi, Ryan, Yushu, BJun, Eileen and I from Malaysia. We took a subway to Jangsan station, the education office is located very near to the subway, but we were kind of lost because it was our first time there.

The orientation was held in a conference room equipped with computers. Handouts, souvenirs and CDs were given to us as reference on how to conduct a class. These classes are conducted to promote our country and culture to Korean students, mainly primary and high school students. For each visit, we will be given 30,000 won for the expenses on the materials used in the class and other expenditures. They will bank in the allowance into our account the following month after the class. We will decide on our own the topics that we are going to present and how we conduct it. They will provide a translator during the class, so it is not a problem to conduct the class in English. Normally, the translator is the school teacher. I am looking forward to it in the coming September ^^

After the orientation, we had dinner at a Japanese restaurant, which the owner is a Korean. We had Korean food instead there, but it was nice. It must have been expensive. We had Bibimbak(mixed rice) and some side dishes such as Tian Zhang Chige and fried fish. It was really enjoyable.
