Banking in Korea

In order to open a bank account here, we must first get our Alien Card. Unlike in Malaysia, we do not need a minimum amount of money in order to open an account there. When we went to the bank, we were surprised that the application is printed in only Korean and we need to fill it in Korean, even our names. Luckily, we asked our senior to accompany us. However, his command of Korean is not good enough to explain the contents of the form to us. The teller was having a difficult time explaining to us as she did not really understand English. Our senior communicated with her in Korean, which we do not understand at all. Then, the teller just took our Alien Card and helped us filled in. We just do what she asked us to do as she pointed. We can even get our ATM card immediately. The charges for ATM withdrawal here is also different. An extra charge of 600 won will be added if we withdraw during non office hours.
